Humboldt and the Web of Life - Science Film Festival Week

Science Film Festival Schedule – October 2019

The Goethe-Institut Namibia and the Scientific Society Swa kopmund have the pleasure to invite you to the Science Film Festival 2019 in the Swakopmund Museum. The Festival is an annual event and this year it features the films under the theme “Humboldt and the Web of Life”. The public film screenings will take place at the Swakopmund Museum Lecture Hall.

The Scientific Society Swakopmund chose films that might be of particular interest to the local students. Children are invited every morning and afternoon Monday to Thursday for a special film. Friday the whole day we are showing films for different age groups (see the program below). For older children and adults the evening program is planned.

Please see the film descriptions in the separate document.

“The Science Film Festival is a celebration of science communication in Africa: In cooperation with local partners it promotes science literacy and facilitates awareness of contemporary scientific, technological and environmental issues through international films.

Alexander von Humboldt revolutionized the conception of nature by defining it as an interconnected living web – and in doing so, inspired countless scientists, environmentalists, writers and artists alike. On the 250 Year Anniversary of Humboldt’ s birth, we need such a global perspective more than ever. The Science Film Festival 2019 aims to highlight the relevance of this view in the 21st century in regard to environmentalism, climate change and sustainability.”
